Samsung Lands Sprint Nextel's Mobile WiMAX Contract in New York

Samsung Telecommunications America has been selected by US telecom Sprint Nextel to provide mobile WiMAX network infrastructure in the New York City region, according to Sprint Nextel's press release on August 27. The WiMAX network deployment project is in preparation for Sprint Nextel's Xohm mobile Internet services, scheduled to start operations in the region by late 2008. According to the terms of the Samsung-Sprint deal, Samsung will deploy mobile WiMAX network infrastructure in the region covering New York City, Nassau-Suffolk, Long Island, Jersey City, and some areas in northern and central New Jersey.
